I love February. For starters, it’s my birth month. I am never sad about birthdays even now as I turn 51, because I love the woman I am today. Self-love begins with care for one’s health. That’s why I always celebrate National Wear Red Day on the first Friday of February. On this day, we bring awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women. Red is my favorite color and women's health is my favorite topic. One of the simplest things you can do to decrease your risk for heart disease is to walk. According to U.S. Surgeon General Vivek A. Murthy, 22 minutes a day of physical activity like brisk walking can significantly decrease your risk of heart disease and diabetes (up to 40%!).

This is why I’ve been on a mission to make comfortable stylish shoes for 20 years. If your shoes don’t hurt, you are more likely to walk. We need to make these decisions without thinking about our feet and follow our heart (while protecting it) to feel the joy of movement. We need to start walking to lunch, parking further from the entrance, and climbing stairs instead of taking the elevator. One of the best moments of my career was when I received a letter from a customer who wrote to tell me she lost 40 lbs after she bought Taryn Rose shoes and started walking more. It felt great to know that I helped someone walk into a better life. So for Valentine's Day, give yourself some extra love and buy a pair of shoes you adore, then start counting towards 10,000 steps per day.
